Fort Wayne ,IN : Jordan Shafer, 18, killed and another injured after car rolled on rural road on Wednesday,August 12th 2015

One teenager was killed and another seriously injured Wednesday morning when their car rolled on a rural road.

Jordan Shafer, 18, of Rochester was thrown from the car as it rolled on the dirt road near Mentone and died at the scene of the crash, according to the Kosciusko County Sheriff's Department.

A passenger in the car, Cole Dowd, 19, of Mentone, was found near the destroyed car and was taken to a Fort Wayne hospital in serious condition with various injuries, police said.

Investigators determined Shafer was driving east on County Road 500 South east of Indiana 19 when the car went off the south side of the road.

He then lost control and the car started to roll, police said.

Shafer was thrown about 40 feet into a tree-lined area.
