Columbus,IN : Driver injured; building, truck damaged in accident on March, Friday 30th 2018
North Vernon Police Department officers are investigating the cause of a crash that resulted in extensive damage to a downtown store and a parked car.
Officers responded at 7:22 p.m. Friday to a report of a truck that had struck a building then backed up across the street and struck a parked car.
The officers arrived and found that Phillip A. Hartwell, 75, of North Vernon, had left a parking space on North Jackson Street and drove south across Walnut Street and struck the Layman Insurance office located at 163 E. Walnut St., damaging the storefront, according to a North Vernon Police Department news release.
Hartwell then put his red 2000 Ford F-150 in reverse and drove back across Walnut Street and struck a silver 2007 Ford SUV parked on Jackson Street, the news release said.
Hartwell was transported from the scene to St. Vincent Jennings Hospital for non-life threatening injuries suffered during the crash.
Officer Michael Holiday is investigating the cause of the crash.
