An Ithaca man was killed and two other people were injured in a one-vehicle crash early Thursday on Interstate 86 in the Town of Horseheads.

The crash happened shortly after midnight on the Exit 54 ramp to state Route 13 North, according to the Chemung County Sheriff's Office.

Luciano M. Servetto, 19, of Ithaca, a passenger in the car, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the sheriff's office criminal investigation division. He was a graduate of Lehman Alternative Community School, a public school in the Ithaca City School District. The school said Thursday it will hold a moment of remembrance Friday.

Johnathan T. Byrd, 27, also of Ithaca, was the driver of the car. He was treated at St. Joseph's Hospital in Elmira for minor injuries.

Investigators identified the other passenger as Carlton J. Clinton Jr., 32, of Elmira. He remains hospitalized for treatment of serious injuries, according to the sheriff's office.

Preliminary stages of the investigation indicate Byrd was westbound on I-86 when he attempted to turn onto Exit 54 toward Ithaca. The exact cause of the accident is still under investigation, and deputies are reconstructing the scene.

New York State Police, as well as the Elmira and Horseheads police departments, Town & Country Fire Department, state Department of Transportation and the Chemung County Coroner's Office all assisted at the scene.
