Columbia, SC : Pedestrian killed in early morning crash on U.S. 501 on Wednesday, June 14, 2017
The crash happened about 3 a.m. Wednesday on the southbound side of U.S. 501 in front of the Tanger Outlet shopping center, according to Cpl. Sonny Collins with the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
The pedestrian, who was illegally walking in the roadway on U.S. 501, was killed after being struck by the driver of a 2005 Nissan Maxima, who was traveling southbound at the time of the crash, Collins said.
The driver was not injured and will not face charges, according to Collins.
More details as to the identity of the person fatally struck may be released later through the Horry County Coroner’s Office.
