Denver, CO : Two injured in motorcycle vs. bicycle crash at 3rd Avenue and Broadway in Denver on Wednesday, Aug 5, 2015

Two men were taken to a local hospital Wednesday when a motorcycle and bicycle collided in Denver.

The incident happened about 7:30 p.m. at 3rd Avenue and Broadway, said Eranda Piyasena, a Denver Police Department spokesman.

A witness to the accident said the bicyclist, a man, was crossing Broadway perpendicular to traffic between 3rd and 4th avenues when he collided with the motorcycle in the center lane.

After impact the two were locked together for about 15 feet, said Joe Costello, who witnessed the crash. Both men grazed a car as they came rolling to a stop.

Neither was wearing a helmet, Costello said.

The bicyclist was bleeding from the head and unconscious, and paramedics rushed him away from the scene, Costello said. The motorcyclist was conscious and walking. He too was taken from the scene by ambulance.

The intersection was shut down to traffic after the crash.

An earlier traffic accident, near East Alameda Avenue and South Hudson Street at about 7 p.m., involving a motorcycle and and a vehicle, also resulted in injury, according to the police department's Twitter feed.

The earlier accident also shut down traffic lanes in that area.

The cause of both accidents are under investigation.
