ZANESVILLE, OH : Fatal crash closes I-70 in Zanesville on Thursday, 15th November 2018

An out-of-state tractor-trailer driver was killed early Thursday morning during a two-vehicle accident on an Interstate 70 bridge spanning the Muskingum River in Zanesville.

Authorities declined to release the victim’s name prior to press time.

Capt. Scott Comstock of the Zanesville Police Department said authorities are still trying to contact the man’s next-of-kin.

The driver of the second vehicle was not injured, according to police. The accident occurred at approximately 2:13 a.m.

Zanesville firefighters and the Muskingum County Emergency Management Agency were dispatched to the scene to assist with leaking oil and fuel from the heavily-damaged tractor-trailer.

The accident and icy road conditions reportedly contributed to a multi-vehicle accident at the Underwood Street exit on I-70 just minutes after the fatal crash.
