A 12-year-old boy has life-threatening injuries after being hit by a car on County Road 218 near Iris Street late Thursday afternoon.
The boy was hit by a Ford Mustang and the driver of that car stopped and cooperated with FHP. Action News Jax has learned the driver tried to give aid to the child as well.
The boy was airlifted to UF Health Jacksonville and is in critical condition, according to FHP.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the Mustang was traveling eastbound on County Road 218 as the pedestrian was attempting to cross the road "in a northerly direction."
The boy stepped into the road "for reasons still under investigation," according to an FHP report, and the right front and side of the Mustang struck the boy.
The driver and the passenger of the Mustang were not injured.
