BOWIE COUNTY, TX : Man thrown from vehicle killed in crash in Bowie County on Thursday, 14th March 2024

One person is dead after a crash in Bowie County, Texas that involved one car.

Officials with the Texas Department of Public Safety say on March 14 around 8:15 p.m., Richard Edward Stahl, 63, of Simms, Texas, was headed west on FM 561 and somehow failed to negotiate a curve. His car, a 2016 Subaru Forester, left the road and hit a tree. More specifically, the wreck happened about five miles northwest of Simms.

Officials say as a result of the impact, Stahl was thrown from the car. He was not wearing his seat belt, according to the preliminary report from Texas DPS. Stahl was pronounced dead on the scene by the justice of the peace.
