Three vehicles were involved in a crash Wednesday on northbound Interstate 65, resulting in multiple injuries, according to Kentucky State Police.

The crash occurred at 5:22 a.m. near the 72-mile marker, KSP said.

Tia Smith, 20, of Spring Hill, Tenn., was driving a 2008 Mitsubishi Lancer in the left lane when her vehicle struck the rear of a 2002 Chrysler PT Cruiser driven by Patricia Kimble, 35, of Fountain Run.

Upon impact, Kimble's vehicle struck a guardrail before re-entering the road in the path of a 2007 Freightliner driven by Richard Gleaves Jr., 69, of Mount Juliet, Tenn.

Gleaves' vehicle then struck Kimble's in the middle lane.

All drivers were wearing seat belts. Three passengers in Kimble's vehicle suffered injuries and were transported to Hardin Memorial Hospital and then Norton Children's Hospital.

Kimble was transported to University of Louisville Hospital for treatment of injuries.
