Los Angeles, CA : Driver killed in collision on I-5 truck lanes on Wednesday, Nov 4, 2015
A motorist was killed Wednesday morning after his car ran into the back of a stopped big rig in the northbound lanes of the Interstate 5 truck route, emergency response officials said.
The crash happened shortly after 8:33 a.m. Wednesday at the Highway 14 connector lane just south of the Highway 14 truck lanes, California Highway Patrol Officer Eric Preissman said.
“We had a sedan rear end a big rig and went underneath the big rig,” Preissman said.
The car was described as a black Toyota sedan. The driver was believed to be the only occupant.
“The (sedan) party became trapped inside the car, and that will be our fatal victim,” Preissman said, confirming that CHP officers called the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office.
The crash happened on the northbound lanes of the I-5 truck lanes, Preissman said. As a result, traffic was stopped on the northbound truck lanes and directed onto the main lanes of I-5, he said.
Truck lanes were reopened shortly after noon.
It was the second fatal crash to happen in the Santa Clarita Valley in the last 12 hours.
A woman was killed Tuesday night in a collision on Bouquet Canyon Road at Cinema Drive.
Both cases are now being investigated by the coroner.
