Moorefield TWP, OH : 58-year-old Springfield man killed in single-vehicle crash on Route 4 in Clark County on Friday, May 20, 2016

The driver was killed on impact when the pickup truck he was driving on state Route 4 in Moorefield Twp. went off the roadway and slammed into a tree, said Sgt. Merrill Thompson, Ohio Highway Patrol Springfield post.

He said that according to witnesses, the vehicle was southbound on Route 4 near the Champaign-Clark County line when the driver appeared to lose control on a curve after coming off a hill.

The vehicle began to fishtail, went off the right berm and the driver over-corrected to continue off the left side of the road and into a tree. The impact was on the passenger side.

The victim’s name has not been released as the patrol was in the process of contacting his next of kin.
Thompson said the hill makes it kind of a blind curve and the roadway was wet. Weather may have played a role, he noted.

“When it starts raining like this, the roads do get slick,” the sergeant said.

Route 4 was shut down for 30 to 40 minutes for the investigation.
