Richmond ,VA : Midlothian woman killed after Two Vehicle Crash along I - 95 at Laburnum Avenue on Sunday ,April 12th 2015
A Midlothian woman died Sunday afternoon following a two vehicle crash in Richmond.
State police are investigating the, crash, which happened around 2:20 p.m. on I-95 North at the 79 mile marker.
According to State Police, Edith I. Cruz was driving a 2004 Mazda Tribute on the ramp from Laburnum Avenue to Interstate 64 West at the I-95 Bryan Park interchange when she made an improper left turn into oncoming traffic. The car belonging to Cruz, 62, was struck on the driver side by a westbound 2014 Thor Challenger RV.
Cruz was taken to VCU Medical Center, where she died from injuries sustained in the crash. She was wearing a seatbelt, state police said.
The driver of the 2014 RV, Glen W. Whitmore, 70, of Berkley, West Virginia, was not injured in the crash. He was wearing a seatbelt.
The fatal crash Sunday afternoon in Richmond created miles of backed up traffic on Interstate 95 North near exit 79 and forced the temporary closure of the I-95 North and South exit ramps to Interstate 64.
