INDEPENDENCE, MO : Independence police identify pedestrian hit, killed by truck on US 40 Highway on Saturday, 20th July 2024

Witnesses say a person who was hit and killed in Independence early Saturday morning may have been walking in the road.

According to the Independence Police Department, the incident happened around 2 a.m. on July 20.

A 2003 Ford F-150 was traveling east on US 40 Highway when the driver hit a pedestrian just past Crysler Avenue.

Witnesses told police that the pedestrian, who died at the scene, was walking in the road when they were hit. On Sunday, they were identified as 40-year-old Janeicka Hays of Kansas City, Mo.
