Riverdale, CA : One killed in Highway 41 crash near Riverdale on early Sunday morning, August 17, 2014

A fuel tanker truck crashed and burst into flames early Sunday morning on Highway 41 near Riverdale, killing one person and injuring at least one other, the California Highway Patrol reported. The crash involving the fuel tanker and a passenger vehicle was reported just before 5 a.m. on northbound Highway 41 near Harlan Avenue, just east of Riverdale. The truck fire ignited brush along the roadside, prompting emergency crews to close the highway for several hours while they extinguished the flames and investigated the crash. Fresno County Environmental Health was also called to the scene. At least one person was taken to Community Regional Medical Center for treatment of injuries, according to the CHP's dispatch log.
