ROCKFORD, IL : A Wisconsin man died this morning after a one-vehicle crash on Wednesday, August 2, 2017
A Wisconsin man died this morning after a one-vehicle crash on Interstate 90 in Winnebago County.
The 46-year-old Friendship man, whose name hasn’t been released pending notification of his family, was pronounced dead at 8:24 a.m. at OSF Saint Anthony Medical Center in Rockford, according to the Winnebago County Coroner’s Office. Coroner Bill Hintz told the Register Star that the man was driving a vehicle eastbound on I-90 when the crash occurred near mile marker 4.25.
Hintz said no other vehicles were involved in the crash and he believes “this car hit the wall.” The driver was the only person in the vehicle when it crashed, Hintz said.
A message was left Wednesday afternoon for Illinois State Police, which investigates fatal crashes on the interstate, but a trooper wasn’t immediately available for comment.
Hintz said an autopsy is scheduled for Friday. Authorities may know more then, he said, about whether the man suffered a medical event that could have resulted in the crash.
