Two people were killed and one person was injured in a one-car crash on Interstate 40 that closed the interstate for hours.
Police said the driver of the 1995 Honda CEX was traveling eastbound on I-40 at a high rate of speed near Charlotte Pike when the car traveled off the roadway, struck a rock wall, then crossed back across the interstate and collided with a retaining wall.
The car landed upside down and all three passengers were ejected.
“Apparently came and hit the rock wall and then flipped a few times and then he was laying in the road and the girl that was with him was laying in the median,” said Ryan Nelson, who was one of the witnesses of the crash.
“When I walked here and saw the deceased lying in the road, it was a very wakening moment for me,” said Vance Sharp, another witness. “It's always very tragic and sad to see.”
Michael Dombrowski, 29, and Sarah Pierce, 23, both of Dickson, died at the scene. Benjamin Benayce, 35, of Dickson, is in stable condition at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.
“We pulled up right after it happened before the emergency vehicles pulled up,” said Nelson. “I was told he was going fast.”
