Boothbay, ME : Two teens killed early Wednesday morning in a crash on Route 27 in Boothbay on July 30, 2014

A 21-year-old Connecticut man was arrested Wednesday afternoon after police say he provided alcohol to two teens killed in an early morning car crash on Route 27.

William M. Gerardi of Hebron, Connecticut, was charged with felony furnishing liquor to a minor after an investigation determined that he provided liquor to both teens while at a home on Merry Lane in Boothbay, according to a release from Lt. Rand Maker of the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office.

Maker identified the deceased driver as Casey Dalton, 19, of Boothbay, but he declined to identify the 17-year-old passenger from Boothbay Harbor, who also was killed in the early morning crash. Maker said the sheriff’s office will not name the teen because he was a juvenile.

Police received a 911 call reporting the crash just before 3:30 a.m. and discovered the two teens deceased at the scene, Maker said.

The police investigation indicated that the 19-year-old was driving a Ford Explorer north on Route 27 near the intersection of River Road when the driver lost control, causing the SUV to cross the southbound lane and strike several trees before coming to rest.

Dalton was not wearing a seat belt, but the 17-year-old passenger was, according to the release.

Maker said Wednesday that Gerardi was working in the Boothbay area for the summer. He said he did not know how the three knew each other or whether others were present at the Merry Lane home before the crash.

Gerardi was being held at Two Bridges Regional Jail in Wiscasset with an initial court appearance set for Thursday or Friday. Bail was set at $5,000 cash.

Maker said the crash is still under investigation, and deputies will work with the Lincoln County district attorney’s office to determine whether to file additional charges against Gerardi or charges against others who may have been involved in the incident.
