Salem ,OR :Deputy trapped in burning patrol car, rescued, after crash while responding to call on Saturday ,July 18th 2015

A Polk County Sheriff's deputy who was responding to a call for help on Saturday -- lights and sirens on -- crashed into another vehicle and had to be rescued from his burning patrol car.

Deputy Shon Latty was trapped in his patrol car -- with a broken shoulder and arm -- shortly after noon Saturday. Another deputy and two Dallas police officers arrived to free Latty from his car.

The patrol car had ended up in a ditch, its front end crimped upwards. Photos from the scene show that the car was totaled, with most of it was heavily burned.

The incident unfolded when an Independence police officer called over the radio for help because he "was actively fighting with someone," according to a news release from the sheriff's office. Latty was leaving the city limits of Dallas when he collided with another vehicle near Southeast Godsey Road.

Two other people were in the other vehicle. The driver suffered minor injuries, was transported to West Valley Hospital in Dallas and was released a short while later, according to the sheriff's office. The passenger was uninjured, according to the sheriff's office.

Latty was rushed by ambulance to an emergency room in Salem, which is about 15 miles east of Dallas.

Oregon State Police were asked to investigate the cause of the crash.
