Mesa, AZ : Two people are dead after a four-vehicle crash in Mesa on Monday morning, June 9, 2014
It's one of the worst wrecks we've seen in a long time: four vehicles crushed with deadly results.
Mangled cars were seen all over the intersection of Brown and Recker Roads after a woman caused a chain reaction crash involving four vehicles. Two people in one vehicle, a boyfriend and girlfriend, who were on their way to work.
"It is a horrific scene.. you look behind, there's a lot of damage and obviously anytime somebody dies in a crash scene, it's terrible," said Mesa Police Sgt. Sean Kelly.
Police say the woman driving a Toyota FJ Cruiser was speeding when she slammed into the Chevrolet which was stopped at the stoplight, instantly killing 33-year-old Jason Aguilera and his girlfriend, 37-year-old Guadalupe Madril.
Veteran investigators at the scene were stunned by the force of the impact.
"One has over 30 years experience and they said this is one of the worst rear end collisions they've ever seen," said Kelly.
People who saw the crash went over to help the victims and were shocked at what the woman who caused the crash did next.
"The gal who I guess caused it all was doing push ups and cartwheels in the road after this happened.. it's horrible," said Chris Fjelstad, a witness.
"We received reports of some bizarre behavior on her part.. we're looking to see if that was caused by impairment or any other factors that may have contributed to this crash," said Kelly.
"My heart just goes out to the families. I mean.. sending them prayers," said Fjelstad. "Completely senseless."
