Redding,CA : 21 Years Old women injured after car hit the CHP patrol unit that was parked on the shoulder on Friday night, November 28th 2014
A driver rear-ended a parked and unoccupied California Highway Patrol cruiser Friday night on the side of Interstate 5 north of Bridge Bay Road.
Cassandra Chavez, 21, of Bakersfield was driving north on the freeway in moderate rain at an unsafe speed for the wet conditions, the CHP said.
Chavez, who was wearing a seat belt, lost control of the 2001 Ford Explorer she was driving and hit the CHP patrol unit that was parked on the shoulder, the CHP said. She suffered minor injuries and was taken to Mercy Medical Center in Redding for treatment.
No officers were injured but the CHP car was totaled.
The crash occurred shortly after 9:30 p.m. while two officers were investigating a noninjury wreck in the area. The impact of the crash nearly pushed the patrol car into a California Department of Forestry and Fire Prevention truck.
Northbound I-5 was reduced to one lane at the crash scene while officers investigated.
