Mountain Brook,AL: Suspect crashes in Mountain Brook after high speed police chase on November, Monday 20th 2017
A suspect crashed near a Publix in Mountain Brook after a high speed chase with that city’s police department, according to Lt. Edwards with Birmingham Police.
Edwards tells CBS42 News that Mountain Brook Police officers were in hot pursuit when the suspect wrecked at Montclair Road and Cresthill Road. The suspect has been taken into custody, according to Edwards.
According to Mountain Brook Police, an officer was running radar on Montclair Road near Ramsey Park when he spotted a car coming East at around 55 mph. The officer got behind the car and ran the tag through dispatch to find that it was stolen from Irondale, according to police.
As the car came back as stolen, the driver reportedly took off at a high rate of speed heading towards Eastwood before it crashed while trying to make the curve on Montclair between Cresthill Road and Hoadley Drive. The vehicle struck a power pole on the right side of the road before crossing five lanes of traffic, hitting the curb and going down an embankment before flipping over.
The driver then reportedly fled the vehilce and was eventually located on Cresthill Road before being taken into custody. The driver refused medical aid from Birmingham Fire and Rescue.
Police reportedly recovered two handguns from the scene of the crash.
There is no word on charges or the suspects identity at this time, as police await warrants.
