Richmond, KY : One person is dead and another injured after a two-vehicle crash in western Laurel on Wednesday, 10th August, 2016
Laurel County Sheriff’s Department Sgt. Larry Parrott said a Honda motorcycle was traveling west on Highway 192 when it crossed the centerline and collided with the front driver’s side of a white Nissan van. The Nissan had pulled out from a driveway and was traveling east on Highway 192.
According to a press release from the Laurel County Sheriff’s Office, the driver of the motorcycle was identified as William Hayes, 30, of Richmond. Laurel County Coroner Doug Bowling pronounced Hayes dead at the scene at 6:32 p.m.
According to Sgt. Parrott, the driver of the Nissan was wearing a seatbelt and the motorcyclist was wearing a helmet.
The driver of the Nissan, Robert Burkey, 69, of London, reported no injuries but a passenger in the van, Jessie Burkey, 65, of London, was transported to St. Joseph Hospital London for unknown injuries. Her condition was not known at press time.
Emergency workers had the roads blocked for almost two hours while authorities worked to clear the scene.
The Keavy Volunteer Fire Department, Ambulance, Inc. of Laurel County, the London-Laurel Rescue Squad, and Laurel County Sheriff’s Department Sgt. Larry Parrott and Deputy Brandon Broughton assisted at the scene.
The sheriff’s department continues the investigation.
