Nashville, TN : Woman killed in crash in south Nashville identified on Monday, 17th October 2016
A woman was killed in a crash in south Nashville Monday morning, according to Metro police.
Ambulances were dispatched to a home near the intersection of Northcrest and Leeanne drives in the Beverly Heights neighborhood around noon. Witnesses say the woman was speeding down Whispering Hills before striking a tree.
Metro police later tentatively identified the driver as Maha Ahmed, 39, of Whispering Oaks Drive.
Police say Ahmed struck a parked white Toyota Camry car at the Audubon Park Apartments, continued driving down Bonerwood Drive, crossed Northcrest Drive, struck a tree and rolled. The Camry's driver was not injured.
Ahmed's 2003 Jeep Laredo landed in the lawn in between two homes, and she was partially ejected from the vehicle.
Several witnesses who live in the area rushed to the Jeep in an attempt to help the woman but said they could not get her out of the SUV.
Police pronounced Ahmed dead at the scene.
Gabriel Cuevas, 33, said he was parking his car when the driver sped by.
"She was going so fast," he said at the scene as he stood behind yellow crime scene tape. "If I would have parked one minute earlier she would have hit me. I'm so lucky."
Police confirmed that Ahmed was traveling at a high rate of speed. There was no evidence at the scene to indicate drug or alcohol involvement in this fatal crash, according to police.
