One person was killed and a second person injured in a two-vehicle crash Wednesday afternoon.
Dallas Township Police in cooperation with the Pennsylvania State Police, the Luzerne County District Attorney’s Office and the Luzerne County Coroner are investigating the crash, which police said occurred at about 3 p.m. on the Tunkhannock Highway (state Route 309) just north of the township municipal building.
Luzerne County Coroner Bill Lisman said at the scene that the survivor was taken to Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center in Plains Township. He declined to release additional information at the time.
In a news release issued Wednesday night, township police said the names of the drivers are being withheld pending the notification of family and the completion of the investigation.
The crash shut down parts of Tunkhannock Highway between the Country Club Shopping Center and the Country Club Apartments. Automobile traffic was detoured around the scene while commercial truck traffic was delayed until the roadway was opened at about 9 p.m.
The collision, which involved two sedans, occurred near the northern entrance to the Dallas Mobile Home Park, and directly in front of a former gas station.
Back Mountain Regional Fire and Ambulance and Dallas Borough police assisted the investigating agencies.
