THOMASVILLE, GA : Man charged with DUI in Remington Park crash on Tuesday, 31st July 2018

A 20-year-old Thomasville resident involved in a vehicle collision at Remington Park early Tuesday morning told police he was looking for excitement.

Police were checking on a vehicle at the park about 12:30 a.m. when Joseph Robert Aracri arrived driving a Toyota Prius and parked near police with loud music coming from the vehicle. The Prius eventually left at a high rate of speed and traveled east on Ben Grace Drive toward the back of the park, according to an incident report.

Moments later, officers heard a collision. As they got near the collision site, officers saw the Prius in the middle of the road, and it appeared to have flipped over.

Debris from the vehicle was on the road, visible skid marks led to the area of impact, and significant damage to a pine tree was observed.

Blood was on the driver side door of the car. All airbags had been deployed.

Witnesses told police a man got out of the car and ran toward railroad tracks. The man told police he was out for a joy ride in his parents’ vehicle and was out of jail on arson charges.

Aracri was charged with arson in December 2017. He is a suspect in a fire at a building on the Cross Creek Elementary School campus. He was out of jail on a $5,100 bond.

He said he stopped to watch police at the parked car “to see something exciting, Live PD action,” in reference to a television show.
