Three Dead After Head-On Crash In Garfield County
At least three people were killed in a two-car crash near the Garfield-Kingfisher County line on state highway 81, Friday night.According to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, the crash occurred due to a car traveling in the wrong direction on US 81.Troopers say a Hyundai Accent carrying two people was northbound in the southbound lanes of the highway when it crashed head-on with a southbound Chevrolet Cruz driven by 23-year-old Antonio Medina Jr. of Enid.Medina and both people in the Hyundai were killed. The names of the two in the Hyundai were not immediately released.OHP troopers, Garfield County sheriff's deputies, Waukomis and Hennessey fire and rescue crews were all called to the scene. One of the vehicles in the crash caught fire, and prompted some of the fire crews to douse grass fires.The southbound lanes of US 81, from Wood Rd. in Garfield County, were shut down at 8:20 p.m. due to the crash. The northbound lanes were not affected.The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
