MISHAWAKA, IN : Police name man killed in Grape Road crash on Wednesday, December 7th, 2016
Authorities have named a man who was killed in a three-vehicle crash Wednesday evening on Grape Road.
Police say 53-year-old Randy Boyd, of Mishawaka, was driving south on Grape, between Edison Lakes Drive and Day Road, about 5:30 p.m. when he swerved into oncoming traffic, hitting two vehicles.
In a press release Thursday, a spokeswoman for the St. Joseph County prosecutor's office said Boyd side-swiped one vehicle before striking another vehicle head-on. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Jane Ballinger, 66, who was driving the other vehicle in the head-on collision, was treated for a broken ankle. Elizabeth Ruiz, 29, was driving the vehicle that was side-swiped. She had minor injuries.
Boyd also had a passenger, 35-year-old Shawn Dewey, who was found unconscious at the scene but was expected to make a full recovery, according to the press release.
The St. Joseph County Fatal Accident Crash Team was activated to handle the investigation. FACT investigates crashes that involve deaths or serious injuries.
Police believe alcohol was a factor in the crash, the press release said.
