Las Vegas, NV : Girl dies after being struck by garbage truck in east valley Wednesday afternoon, February 8, 2017

An 11-year-old girl was hit and killed by a garbage truck in the east valley Wednesday afternoon, according to Metro Police.

The Las Vegas girl, who has not been identified, was hit about 2:45 p.m. at Sandhill and Viking roads, police said.

Investigators said the girl, accompanied by another young pedestrian, was struck when she tried to cross Viking when a Republic Services truck turned right onto Viking from northbound Sandhill. They say she was struck by the truck's rear tires.

The girl was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver remained at the scene and did not show signs of impairment, police said.

This is the 15th traffic-related death reported in Metro’s jurisdiction this year. It remains under investigation.
