Canaan, NY : Van driver dies in crash on NY Thruway’s Berkshire Spur on Wednesday, August 3, 2016
State police say a 55-year-old Schenectady man has died after crashing his van into the back of a tractor-trailer on the New York Thruway’s Berkshire Spur near the Massachusetts border.
Troopers say a 2011 Ford Econoline van driven by David L. Kinder struck the rear of a tractor-trailer around 7 a.m. Wednesday. Police say the trucker, 23-year-old Mirlan Maratbekov of Billings, Montana, wasn’t hurt.
Police say Kinder’s van careened into trees along the highway. He was pronounced dead at the scene by the Columbia County coroner.
The crash happened in Interstate 90’s eastbound lanes near Exit B3, 25 miles southeast of Albany. The highway’s right lane was closed for nearly six hours after the crash.
Troopers say investigators are looking into what caused the collision.
