Palm Harbor, FL : Man seriously injured in hit-and-run in Palm Harbor on early Saturday, August 23, 2014

A 27-year-old Massachusetts man was seriously injured early Saturday when a vehicle struck him on Palm Harbor Boulevard and drove away, authorities say. Samuel R. Welch, of Shrewsbury, was walking north in the northbound bicycle lane near Alderman Road when an unknown vehicle hit him from behind, throwing him to the east shoulder, the Florida Highway Patrol said. The vehicle continued driving north, troopers said. A passerby found Welch about 1:45 a.m., but investigators don't know how long he was lying there, said patrol Sgt. Steve Gaskins.
