Baltimore, MD : Pasadena man dies in bus crash on Thursday, March 9th 2017
A Pasadena man was declared dead at the scene after police said he crashed his car into the side of a Maryland Transportation Authority bus Thursday afternoon.
Anne Arundel police said officers were called to the scene of a two vehicle accident in the area of Route 173 at Energy Parkway in Baltimore at 4:16 p.m. Thursday.
Officers found that a Chevrolet Impala driven by Corey James Ferrell, 22, of Pasadena, had struck the side of a MTA bus as it was making a left turn. The bus was pushed into the median as a result of the impact.
Ferrell was declared dead at the scene by paramedics and taken to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore for an autopsy.The passenger, Jakob Quasney, 24, of Pasadena, was taken to the hospital with serious injuries. Police said he is still listed in serious condition as of about 8 a.m. Friday morning.
The driver of the bus, James Owens Jr., 30, of Baltimore was uninjured and there were no passengers on the bus at the time of the collision, police said.
The cause of the crash is under investigation, but police believe the accident was caused by excessive speed on the part of Ferrell.
The investigation will be handled jointly by the Anne Arundel County Police Department's Traffic Safety section along with MTA police and any possible charges stemming from the crash will be subject to review by the Anne Arundel County State's Attorney's Office, police said.
