One dead, one injured in car wreck in Assumption
A St. Mary Parish man died Wednesday morning after his pickup rolled over in rainy conditions and struck several trees along La. 182 in southern Assumption Parish, State Police reported.The 2005 Nissan Titan that Aurelio Montelongo-Hernandez, 34, of Bayou Vista, was driving went off the left side of La. 182 eastbound near La. 622 in Amelia about 5:30 a.m., troopers said in a news release Wednesday.
Montelongo-Hernandez, who was wearing his seat belt, was pronounced dead at the scene by the Assumption Parish Coroner’s Office, troopers said.
The crash remains under investigation, but troopers said worn tires combined with high speed in wet conditions may have been factors in the crash.
Troopers said rear treads on the pickup’s tires were low.Alcohol is not suspected as a factor in the crash, but routine toxicology tests are pending, troopers said.
An unidentified front seat passenger was taken to Teche Regional Medical Center in Morgan City with minor injuries, troopers said.The passenger was not wearing a seat belt, troopers said.
