A Valparaiso-area man was killed Wednesday night in a crash on County Road 400 North, officials said.
Alexander Ruesta, 18, was pronounced dead at the scene, Porter County Coroner Chuck Harris said.
The initial investigation by Porter County Sheriff's Department indicates a 2004 Chevrolet pickup truck was eastbound on County Road 400 North preparing to turn into a driveway at 402 W. 400 North, when it was struck by an eastbound 1998 Honda passenger car about 9:15 p.m.
Police said the Honda went off the road, rolled and landed upright among some trees, while the pickup truck was spun around but remained on the road.
Police said Ruesta, a backseat passenger in the Honda, was killed in the crash.
The driver of the pickup, Mark Bruszewski, 58, of Valparaiso, was taken by ambulance to Methodist Hospital Northlake Campus in Gary for treatment.
The driver of the Honda, Jafen Good, 20, of Portage, was taken to Porter Regional Hospital along with two other male passengers in the car. Their names were not released.
Ruesta was a recent graduate of Wheeler High School and had played on the football team.
The Porter County Sheriff's Department Crash Reconstruction Team was called to the scene for further investigation and the investigation is ongoing
