Lakewood, CA : One person injured after crash involving the big rig and SUV on Interstate 605 in Lakewood on Tuesday, April 7, 2015

All southbound lanes of Interstate 605 in southern Los Angeles County remain closed following a collision that caused a tanker truck to overturn and spill thousands of gallons of fuel.

Commuter traffic is backed up for miles early Tuesday as crews continue to clear the lanes in Lakewood. The California Highway Patrol estimates the closure could last through late morning.

The CHP says one person was hospitalized following the crash involving the big rig and an SUV late Tuesday.

A Los Angeles County Fire Department spokesman tells City News Service that 3,500 gallons of fuel spilled from the big rig, which was carrying nearly 9,000 gallons.

The condition of the injured person was not immediately known.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.
