Dover, DE : Dover motorcyclist killed in Milford-area crash on Thursday, March 23rd 2017

Delaware State Police are continuing to investigate a Thursday collision that took the life of a Dover man.

The crash took place at around 11:18 a.m. March 23 on Bay Road north of Tub Mill Pond Road, north of Milford, Delaware State Police spokesman Master Cpl. Gary Fournier said.

David E. Thompson, 29, was driving his 2005 Honda CBR sport bike south when he collided with a car hauler. The tractor had been traveling north on Bay Road when it stopped in a crossover preparing to turn into the I.G. Burton automotive dealership, Fournier said.

Thompson apparently tried to brake as the hauler began crossing the southbound roadway; he lost control and hit the front part of the trailer in the middle of the road.

The truck continued on for another 19 feet before coming to a stop.

Thompson was pronounced dead at the scene; he was wearing a helmet, Fournier said.

The truck driver, identified as Anthony L. Howard, 35, of Parkville, Maryland, was not injured.

The police investigation shows no evidence that either operator was using drugs or alcohol, Fournier said.

Anyone who may have witnessed this incident is asked to contact Master Cpl. Killen at 302-698-8451
