WORCESTER, MA : 76 crashes in Worcester on icy morning on Friday, 28th December 2018

A tanker truck carrying diesel fuel overturned on Morningside Road Friday morning — just one of 76 accidents reported to city police as rain turned to ice on cold roads.

Fire officials said about 100 gallons of diesel leaked from the vehicle. Deputy Fire Chief Martin Dyer said Friday afternoon that most of the tanker’s cargo had been transferred to another tanker, but significant clean-up was was still going on. Some of the spilled diesel had seeped down a storm drain into Beaver Brook, which crews needed to address.

Officials were keeping the road closed during the cleaning.

The driver lost control of the truck when he hit a patch of ice as he approached Morningside Road from Colonial Road, officials said.

There were no reports of injuries.
