Marietta, GA : School bus crashes on slippery Atlanta highway on Thursday, December, 7th 2017

Officer Lisa Bender of the Atlanta Police Department reported an accident today that she said appears to be weather-related.

At about 9:40 a.m., officers responded to a crash at I-20 westbound and Boulevard, east of the Connector, involving a white Nissan and a Rockdale County school bus with children on board.

“Five children and one adult have been transported for treatment (non-life threatening injuries) to a local hospital,” Bender said.

The investigation is ongoing.

Motorists are advised to be cautious on roads.

The Georgia Department of Transportation posted an advisory saying a winter storm warning is in effect until Dec. 9 at 7 a.m. for several counties north and west of Atlanta.

Motorists planning to travel should continue to monitor conditions, the department stated on its 511 website.

Much colder weather is expected tonight and any residual moisture on the roadways will freeze.
