Gilroy, CA : 76-year-old man died in a crash on Highway 152 early Monday, Nov 9, 2015

Authorities have identified a 76-year-old Gilroy man who was killed in a crash on Highway 152 early Monday, according to the Santa Clara County Medical Examiner-Coroner's Office.

Severiano Pineda died when the BMW he was riding in lost traction in the westbound lanes of the rain-slicked Pacheco Pass near the San Luis Reservoir, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Investigators say the car, driven by an 18-year-old Gilroy woman, hydroplaned, spun out of control, hit a hillside and rolled back toward the roadway and landed on its roof. The driver suffered major injuries, and a 49-year-old Los Banos woman also riding in the car suffered moderate injuries, the CHP said.

Pineda, who the CHP said was not wearing a seat belt, was pronounced dead at the scene. Drugs or alcohol are not believed to have been factors in the crash.
