Greeley,CO: Driver who died in Saturday crash identified as Wiggins girl on October, Saturday 14th 2017
The 17-year-old girl who died Saturday morning after being involved in a head-on collision with another car in southeast Weld County was identified as Nayley Miramontes-Borunda, of Wiggins.
Weld County Coroner Carl Blesch confirmed the girl's identity late Monday afternoon.
Sgt. Rob Madden of the Colorado State Patrol confirmed the crash took place about 7:44 a.m. near Colo. 52 and mile marker 49, which is near Weld County Road 85, about 17 miles southeast of Keenesburg.
Miramontes-Borunda was driving a 2006 Chevrolet Cobalt, he said, and she was traveling west in the eastbound lanes of Colo. 52. Madden said troopers believe heavy fog may have contributed to the crash, which occurred when she struck a 2003 Dodge 3500 head on as it traveled east. The driver of the truck was Margaret Patton, 50, who was seriously injured in the crash along with her passenger, a 17-year-old boy Madden also did not identify. Both the woman and the boy were taken to Brighton's Platte Valley Medical Center with serious injuries, he said.
The Miramontes-Borunda was pronounced dead on the scene. She was the 37th person to die in a traffic crash in Weld this year. Through Saturday's date last year, 44 people had died on Weld roads and highways.
