One dead in motorcycle crash on New Jersey Turnpike near Newark
A motorcycle rider died after he was ejected from his vehicle on the New Jersey Turnpike near Newark tonight, police said.The victim, whose identity was withheld by police pending notification of his family, was traveling in the highway's northbound lanes around 6 p.m., according to Sgt. Adam Grossman, a spokesman for the New Jersey State Police.While it remains unclear what led to the fatal wreck, Grossman said the motorcyclist was traveling from the Turnpike onto the Newark Bay extension, which is part of Route 78 East, when he was launched from the vehicle.The man fell onto some train tracks beneath the highway and died a short time later, according to Grossman, who said no other vehicles were involved in the crash and no one else was harmed.
