Richmond, KY: Woman injured after being struck by car in parking lot of Richmond Kroger on Monday, July 20th 2015

Richmond police were investigating Monday after an elderly woman was struck by a car in the Kroger parking lot.The victim was alert and talking when paramedics arrived. She was taken to University of Kentucky Chandler Hospital with injuries that did not appear to be life-threatening.A witness told WKYT another customer was backing up in the parking lot when she struck the woman, pinning her between her car and a sport utility vehicle. The witness said she stayed with the victim until paramedics arrived. She said the person driving the car did not get out of her vehicle. When firefighters arrived, they moved the car to free the victim.Karen Thornton, a Kroger spokeswoman, said the customer, who had been shopping with her daughter, was putting her cart away when the driver backed into her. Thornton said the driver apparently had some type of health issue. The driver was taken to the hospital because of her health conditions, Thornton said.
