Dickson, TN : Two people killed in crash on I-40 East in Dickson County on Sunday morning, June 19, 2016
Two people were killed in a crash on Interstate 40 East in Dickson County Sunday morning.
It happened near mile marker 174 around 8 a.m.
According to the Tennessee Highway Patrol, a tractor trailer was sitting on the side of the road waiting for repairs when a Dodge truck crossed the white line and hit the rear of the trailer.
The truck then ran off the road and struck several trees.
Two of the passengers in the truck, 20-year-old Shelby Cox and 23-year-old Cameron “Taylor” Isabell, were killed. They were not wearing seat belts, according to the THP.
The driver and a third passenger suffered injuries but survived, and the tractor trailer driver was not hurt.
THP Sgt. Travis Plotzer says it’s important for drivers to move over in this type of situation.
“We want to encourage folks that the law says they’ve got to move over. If they cannot move over they have to slow down to a safe speed, but if they can they must get over.”
Several lanes of traffic were closed but have since reopened. This is the second fatal accident in the area over the past few days.
