Newell,WV : Bicyclist hospitalized after being hit by car, no charges expected on September, Tuesday 5th 2017
An investigation continues into an accident Tuesday morning that sent a bicyclist to the hospital.
According to Hancock County Sheriff Ralph Fletcher, Jessica A. Gilbert, 34, of Newell was traveling west on a bicycle along Cordray Street around 10:30 a.m. when she collided with a vehicle, a Ford Edge, driven by Christopher Stickles, 39, of Killeen, Texas, which had been traveling west along Sixth Street.
Fletcher said, according to preliminary findings, Gilbert ran the stop sign and hit the SUV, striking the rear passenger side of the vehicle. Stickles was able to stop, exit his vehicle, and rendered aid until first responders arrived at the scene, the sheriff said.
Personnel from the Newell and Chester volunteer fire departments responded to the scene.
Gilbert was transported to a landing zone by the Chester-Newell Ambulance Service, and was later flown by Stat Medevac to UPMC Presbyterian Hospital. Her condition is unknown at this time.
Fletcher said no charges are expected to be filed against Stickles. The accident remains under investigation.
