A northwest Minnesota man who was seriously injured after a two-vehicle crash Thursday evening in Marshall County has died.
Christopher Britten, 41, of Halma, Minn., was southbound in a 2013 Chevy pickup on U.S. Highway 59 about 4 miles north of Strandquist when he attempted to turn left onto Marshall County Road 27 at 6:34 p.m., according to a Minnesota State Patrol report. Britten hit a northbound 2009 Volvo semi head on, the reported stated.

The semi’s driver, Erdman Krahn, 57, of Mitchell, Manitoba, was not injured, but Britten was taken to Sanford Medical Center in Thief River Falls, which is about 30 miles southeast of Strandquist.

Britten died from his injuries.

No alcohol was detected on Krahn, who was wearing his seat belt, but Britten wasn’t wearing his safety restraint, according to State Patrol. Britten’s airbag did not deploy.

Though the report, which was updated Tuesday, is believed complete, it’s unknown if Britten was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash.

The pickup was totaled and the semi sustained severe damage.

Halma is a Kittson County city of about 60 residents about 45 miles northwest of Thief River Falls.
