South Dennis, Massachusetts
A 69-year-old Dennis woman was taken to Massachusetts General Hospital Saturday morning by helicopter after a two-car crash on Setucket Road, according to the police.
An 83-year-old woman and her two grandsons, both from New York, were taken to Cape Cod Hospital with less serious injuries.
Police and rescuers were called at 9:52 a.m. to the area on the road near Old Bass River Road and Grassy Pond Drive, according to police Sgt. John Emerson.
The crash occurred when Trude Maloney, 69, was driving west on Setucket Road in a 2007 Toyota Matrix when she crossed the center line, Emerson said, based on a preliminary police investigation. Maloney crashed into a 2003 Ford Taurus driving by Rita Taylor, 83, of Dennis, who had two grandsons, ages 5 and 12, in the car. Taylor had pulled off the road in an attempt to avoid the collision, Emerson said.
Maloney was taken to the Boston hospital with chest and neck injuries, and Taylor was taken to Cape Cod Hospital with leg and neck injuries. The two boys had minor injuries, Emerson said.
No citations have been issued, Emerson said.
Setucket Road between Old Bass River Road and Route 134 was closed at around 11 a.m. but had reopened by around 12:30 p.m., the police said.
The helicopter landed at Nathaniel H. Wixon Innovation School in South Dennis.
