Monessen, PA : Butler school bus crash sends 4 students, driver to hospital on Wednesday September 21 2016

A Wednesday morning school bus crash in Butler County sent four children and the bus driver to the hospital with minor injuries, according to police.

Butler Area School District officials said Valley Lines Bus 204 was headed south on Bonniebrook Road in Summit shortly after 9 a.m. when the crash happened, district officials said in a news release. The bus was taking 20 students to Summit Elementary School.

State police officials said the bus driver, Theodore Codispot, of Butler, had just turned right from Portman Road onto Bonniebrook when it drifted into the northbound lane into the path of a Dodge Ram truck driven by Troy Slater, also of Butler.

The bus struck the driver's side mirror of the truck and then a trailer the truck was towing, police said. The bus continued across the entire northbound lane, crashing through a guardrail and coming to a stop on the side of a slope.
