Castro Valley , CA : 77 - Years old killed in fatal crash on Interstate Highway 580 in the Castro Valley area on Saturday evening, December 6th 2014

The California Highway Patrol this morning has partially identified the victim in a Saturday fatal crash on Interstate Highway 580 in the Castro Valley area as a 77-year-old man from Oakland. The crash occurred around 5:38 p.m. on Interstate Highway 580, west of the Lake Chabot pedestrian overcrossing, according to the CHP. Officers said the preliminary investigation into the crash revealed the man was driving a 2000 gray Chevrolet Malibu when he drove off the roadway and collided with a guardrail. Officers said the car traveled another 300 feet until it came to a rest against a concrete wall. The driver was transported to the hospital, where he was pronounced deceased. There were no other vehicles involved in the crash.
