GRANGER, IN : Two killed in head-on crash on Indiana 23 near Chestnut Road on Tuesday, 16th July 2019
Police have released the names of the two who died in a head-on two-vehicle crash Tuesday on Indiana 23 near Chestnut Road.
Dead is Robert Virgil Frisbie, 70, and Rene Eileen Sterling, 60, both from Union, Mich., according to the St. Joseph County Fatal Crash Team.
The driver of the second vehicle, Nicholas James VanDerHeyden, 19, of Edwardsburg, was taken to the hospital and treated for broken bones, police said. A female passenger in his vehicle, Taylor R. Emerson, 17, of Edwardsburg, was treated for a broken femur, police said.
Police were called to the crash about 12:27 p.m. Tuesday.
The initial investigation indicates Frisbie was driving a Toyota Tacoma southwest on Indiana 23. Witnesses said the Tacoma allegedly was traveling from curb to curb across five lanes before crossing the center line and striking a GMC Sierra truck head-on, according to police.
Evidence at the scene supports the witness statements, according to police.
Frisbie was pronounced dead at the scene. Sterling was transported to Memorial Hospital and was later pronounced dead.
