Butler County, OH : New York teen dies in Madison Twp. ATV crash on Wednesday, July 6, 2016

A New York teen was killed in an ATV crash Wednesday at Stony Meadow Fishing Lake in Madison Twp.

Joseph Wayne Edward Gillis, 16, of Gasport, N.Y., was pronounced dead about 6:30 p.m., after he was found by a family member.

Following an autopsy, the Butler County Coroner’s Office ruled his death an accident.

“He went out riding about 1 p.m. and did not return. That concerned the family,” said Butler County Sheriff’s Deputy Nathan Ellcessor.

Deputies were preparing to search for the teen when he was found by a family member.

The teen and the ATV were found at the bottom of a 10-foot culvert, Ellcessor said. He was pronounced dead at the scene. He was riding alone.

The accident happened on private property off West Alexandria Road, and it is being investigated by the county’s Serious Traffic Accident Reconstruction Team, the sergeant said.
