DeLand,FL : Couple fake burglary to cover up hit-and-run crash on June, Tuesday 13th 2017

A couple faked a crime to cover up a real one, authorities said.

The Gunns have been arrested and charged with fabricating evidence, giving false information to law enforcement during a felony investigation and making a false report.

That's after Volusia County deputies said the couple staged a burglary at their home to make it look like thieves had stolen their truck from their driveway in Deltona.

According to the charging affidavit, Gunn stated he and his wife were out of town when it happened and that neither of them had any suspects in mind.

Investigators told WESH 2 News the truck they reported missing had been involved in a car accident the day before at East Beresford Avenue and South Amelia Avenue in DeLand where the driver ran away.

The affidavit indicates a witness described the driver as a black female with a medium stocky build and a right scar on the right side of her face.

He told deputies she approached him asking for a ride but when he refused, she eventually hopped into another vehicle and left.

Investigators said it was only after the Gunns' false report they put it all together, concluding the vehicle theft was a hoax.

They said the vehicle ignition showed no evidence of being tampered with or hot-wired and that the witness was able to identify Adria Gunn in a photo lineup.

The victim, who did not want to go on camera, said she is very sore but will be OK even though her car was totaled.

Investigators said the Gunns both have extensive criminal histories.
